In August 2018, a student wrote a paper with the title “Comparison of carbon balance and climate change mitigation potential of forest management strategies in the boreal forest of Quebec (Canada)” supervised by Évelyne Thiffault and published in Forestry, an International Journal of Forest Research. This study aimed to determine how management of boreal forest stands could contribute to climate change mitigation in the context of ecosystem-based management using the Université Laval’s forest (Montmorency Forest).

Under the supervision of 4 researchers associated with Université Laval, student Stéphanie Vézina conducted a study on the analysis of ecoefficiency with a university service as part of a master's degree in food science. This analysis focuses on the assessment of environmental impact and nutritional quality score.

Each year between 225 and 350 students carry out research projects at Montmorency Forest, Université Laval's research and teaching forest. The work of these students helps Forest managers maintain an advanced understanding of the land and continuously improve its sustainable management practices.

Under the academic supervision of Rosa Galvez, Ph.D., Ing, Professor at the Faculty of Science and Engineering as well as Guylaine Bernard, M.Sc. Operations Coordinator at the Université Laval Building Department, the student Moïse Keumoe Djeukem has conducted a study project on the management of residual materials at Université Laval. This project was conduct as part of the course DDU-2200 (community intervention project) and focused on the management of residual materials at the Vandry (one of the campus’ building).

The university continues awareness efforts on this topic throughout the year.
