Student educators in the Student Sustainability Council must apply for "chair" positions, and are then given the responsibility of educating fellow council members who in turn educate the campus.

Student educators who are selected from the application process are trained by the Office of Environmental Sustainability about topics relating to sustainability on campus, whether it is operations, programs, or physical features. A training handbook has been compiled by the Office of Environmental Sustainability and is used in the training of student educators.

The student educators are provided with a $500 stipend at the end of each academic year. A student educator may receive a reduced stipend, or no stipend at all if their work, dedication, and achievements are not sufficient.
