A brief description of the institution’s wellness and/or employee assistance program(s):
The mission of the UB Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is to provide expert confidential & timely problem identification/assessment and referral services to individual employees (family member & retirees) with personal concerns that may affect them on or off the job, as well as consultation services to department leadership seeking to manage troubled employees, enhance the work environment & improve employee job performance.
The UB EAP has partnerships with Wellness and Work/Life Balance, Organizational Development and Training, the Emergency Oversight Planning Group, Professional Staff Senate, the HR Advisory Group and other campus initiatives that share a common philosophy of maintaining and encouraging a productive work/life balance.
In addition to the great work that the Employee Assistance Program provides to staff and faculty, the Wellness Education Services (WES) initiative works to improve the health of students in the broadest sense:
-To reduce risk for injury and illness
-To increase academic success and personal satisfaction
-To work toward the genuine health of the whole campus community
The following topic areas are the main focus for campus health promotion efforts:
-Alcohol and other drugs
-Nutrition and physical activity
-Rape, sexual assault and violence prevention
-Stress management
-Smoking cessation
-LGBTQ resources
