A brief description of the student/faculty projects and how they contribute to understanding campus sustainability challenges or advancing sustainability on campus in relation to Air & Climate:
Students in atmospheric science have worked on instruments such as portable weather stations that collect temperature and air quality data. This data is used for research purposes.
Buildings
Yes
A brief description of the student/faculty projects and how they contribute to understanding campus sustainability challenges or advancing sustainability on campus in relation to Buildings:
The Green Club is a student organization at UAH which is buildng a sustainable tiny home. This house will run on solar panels and has wall insulation consisting of used plastic bottles filled with non-recyclable plastic waste such as wrappers, straws, and plastic bags.
Energy

A brief description of the student/faculty projects and how they contribute to understanding campus sustainability challenges or advancing sustainability on campus in relation to Energy:
UAH Faculty has created the Charger Energy Lab to demonstrate the economic viability of an energy system that saves money for utilities and consumers by reducing demand peaks on the electrical supply grid. The Charger Energy Lab uses computer monitoring along with a smart electric meter to calculate when there are peak electricity usage times. At peaks, the system automatically switches the building off the electrical grid and onto power supplied by a battery pack in the building.
Food & Dining
Yes
A brief description of the student/faculty projects and how they contribute to understanding campus sustainability challenges or advancing sustainability on campus in relation to Food & Dining:
A group of students in Dr. Frost's FY class, used a sample of college students at UAH as their focus group on a food waste research project. This Food Waste group estimated the amount of food that students discard in the cafeteria where the food is served in a buffet.
