A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:
Founded in 1965, the University of California, Irvine is the youngest member of the prestigious Association of American Universities. The campus has produced three Nobel laureates and is known for its academic achievement, premier research, innovation and anteater mascot. Led by Chancellor Howard Gillman, UCI has more than 36,000 students and offers over 190 degree programs. It is located in one of the world’s safest and most economically vibrant communities and is Orange County’s second-largest employer, contributing $5 billion annually to the local economy.
This report covers the UCI main campus which is located in the coastal foothills of Orange County, California. The 1,475 acre main campus is comprised of academic and support facilities, student housing, athletic facilities, and open space. The main campus has approximately 11 million gross square feet of building space. This report covers facilities that are under financial and operational control of the main campus and does not include third-party housing nor does it cover the medical center (hospital) which is geographically separated. Leased spaces are also not included within the institutional boundary.
