The annual "Do It in the Dark" Energy Competition takes place for one month across all on-campus residential buildings. Students pledge to decrease their energy use and then compete with other buildings to have the lowest energy use. Students are given energy-saving tips, disseminated by Team Green, and are further motivated by the chance of winning prizes.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign(s):
All-Hill Halloween: This competition helped residents gain first hand experience with sustainability. The competition also educated residents on how product choice and material use affect how sustainable their decoration designs are. Resident Assistants oversaw the Halloween decorating and encouraged residents to reuse materials as well as be conscious of the amount of material that was being used. Fourteen buildings participated in this competition and one floor from each building was awarded with the Most Sustainable Floor. Three floors won the overall sustainability award including the Most Creatively Sustainable Floor. The overall floor winners received pizza gift certificates. For only four of the fourteen buildings, the amount of paper that was saved in 2008 compared to 2007 was 500 pounds or the equivalent of 30,000 square feet. This program was featured on the local news.
Housing and Hospitality Services Energy Competition: In the 2010 competition, over 1,500 students pledged to help reduce their residential hall's energy consumption by 10% and together an estimated 52,980 KWH of electricity was saved for the month of February. This is nearly double the 27,580 KWH of electricity savings from the Energy Competition in 2009, indicating growing student engagement.
