Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
Total number of the institution’s faculty engaged in research is reflective of the Professorial series faculty - these faculty are of professor series and professional researcher series. The faculty also include administrative appointments such as Deans, VPF, Provost, and Chancellor.
The numeric value previously submitted under the 2.0 version was reflective of all faculty, this figure included lecturers. However, lecturers do not conduct research. The figure provided is an accurate comprehensive depiction of the number of faculty that conduct research at UC Merced.
The number of academic departments on the campus is different from the number of academic departments related to research. UC Merced does not have "departments." The number of departments reflected in the academic section is related specifically to major programs. The number of departments in research is related to the campus bylaw units which oversee the academic personnel faculty recruitment, appointments, and research.
