Total number of the institution’s faculty engaged in research is reflective of the Assistant/Associate/Professorial series faculty, these faculty are of professional researcher series. The faculty also include administrative appointments.


The number of academic departments on the campus is different from the number of academic departments related to research. UC Merced does not have "departments." The number of departments reflected in the academic section is related specifically to major programs. The number of departments in research is related to the campus bylaw units which oversee the academic personnel faculty recruitment, appointments, and research.
