Has the institution been formally recognized for leadership in diversity, equity, and/or inclusion during the previous three years by a national or international program? :
Yes
A brief description of the diversity, equity, and/or inclusion recognition:
In 2021, UC Merced has earned the following national, prestigious awards for its commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion: INSIGHT into Diversity’s Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award for UC Merced’s institutional commitment to diversity; Excelencia in Education’s 2021 Seal of Excelencia for UC Merced’s unwavering commitment to intentionally serving Latino students while serving all, and Colleges of Distinction Equity and Justice Badge for institutions who enliven their curriculum with high-impact practices, but they also make these practices accessible in a welcoming community. In addition to these institutional recognitions, individual departments and schools have also earned diversity related awards. For example, in 2019 UC Merced’s School of Engineering has earned the bronze award for its excellence in inclusiveness by the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE), with anticipated expectations to earn silver and gold in the near future.
