A brief description of the institution’s efforts to support alternative fuel and power technology in its motorized fleet:
UCSC's topography has made the implementation of current electric vehicle technology challenging and costly. While we continue to seek & deploy new lithium-ion based battery systems for the campus our current focus is on growing our compressed natural gas (CNG) infrastructure to accommodate more heavy-duty CNG vehicles. We currently have CNG refuse trucks and are working to replace additional large vehicles. In addition to procuring several EV sedans and plug-in hybrids, we added one CNG refuse truck and one CNG powered dump truck to our fleet for this reporting year.

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
We refined the reporting system over the last year. This led to a more accurate picture of what is a "vehicle" by STARS reporting standards. Thus, there is a reduction in the total amount of "vehicles" for this reporting year.
