Research Inventory
Inventory of the institution’s sustainability research:
A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory:
UCF's Sustainability Coordinator downloaded from Web of Science all publications that included a UCF-affiliated author published in 2022 and 2023. Publication abstracts were searched for sustainability keywords and analyzed for criteria applicability using a custom script in R following the protocols developed by staff at The University of Southern California (https://github.com/USC-Office-of-Sustainability/SustainabilityCourseFinder) based on initial developments by staff at Carnegie Mellon University (https://github.com/CMUSustainability/SDGmapR). After initial automated search and labeling in R, UCF Sustainability Initiatives student Co-Coordinators and Interns reviewed publication abstracts the code identified as sustainability-focused or sustainability-inclusive to independently verify the designation. The authors of these verified publications were then searched by Co-Coordinators and Interns to identify the UCF-affiliated author, and if they were an employee of the university. These employees are here considered employees engaged in sustainability research. A list of these employees, along with their publication title and abstract, may be found in the "Edited Faculty" tab of the attached Research Inventory.
