A brief description of the methodology used to determine the total number of courses offered and to identify sustainability course offerings, including the definitions used and the process for reviewing and/or validating the course inventory :
Faculty were asked several years ago, with the advent of the new online course catalog, to indicate whether their courses should be labelled with "sustainability" as a keyword. The courses that were part of that group that were offered for AY15-16 were included in the inventory. Then consultants from the Unlimited Carbon Assistance Network (UCAN), all of whom are experts in various aspects for sustainability, examined the entire course catalog and used course titles and descriptions to flag those that were focused on sustainability or that involved sustainability. The final step will be to circle back with faculty whose courses were flagged by UCAN in order to offer them the option to "code" their courses with the sustainability keyword in the course catalog for future years.
How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
Each course was counted as a single course regardless of the number of offerings or sections
