A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:
The University of Cincinnati's (UC's) Uptown Campus is located in the heart of Cincinnati, Ohio. The Uptown Campus is divided between a "West Academic Campus" and a "East Medical Campus." Both campuses' academic, residential, administrative and independent hospital partners are supplied electricity, steam and chilled water year round by a state-of-the-art central tri-gen plant and seasonally are supplied steam from the the East Campus utility plant. Given its nature, the campus is operational 24/7 year round, with various business hour facilities closing at different times throughout the week and academic school year. In addition to its main campus, UC has a number of satellite campuses spread throughout the Cincinnati area (which are not included in this assessment).
Which of the following features are present on campus and which are included within the institutional boundary?:
Present? | Included? | |
Agricultural school | No | No |
Medical school | Yes | Yes |
Other professional school with labs or clinics (e.g. dental, nursing, pharmacy, public health, veterinary) | Yes | Yes |
Museum | No | No |
Satellite campus | Yes | No |
Farm larger than 2 hectares or 5 acres | No | No |
Agricultural experiment station larger than 2 hectares or 5 acres | No | No |
Hospital | Yes | No |
The rationale for excluding any features that are present from the institutional boundary:
The University supplies utilities to five area hospitals that are owned and administered separately from the University; however, since they are powered by UC-owned and operated-infrastructure, their energy consumption and associated emissions, as well as their GSF, are represented in the energy and GHG-related credits. Those organizations (and their employees/patients) are not included in the content or normalization data for any other credits however (i.e. not included in PRE4), since they are separate organizational entitites with their own governance structures and facilities staff and budgets.
In addition to its main campus, UC has a number of satellite campuses spread throughout the Cincinnati area which are included in the scope of this report; however, there are also two branch campuses, Blue Ash and Clermont, which are not included in this assessment because they are administered more autonomously.
