There is a wetlands area behind Bear Creek Housing in Williams Village that is fenced off to be protected. Likewise, CU is in an ICUN Category V Species list for grid cell 34807 to protect the Anaxyrus boreas Western Toad, according to the IBAT assessment tool.

"The University has 192 acres located in the mountains west of Boulder. The property has a few building that are used as a research station devoted to the study of environmental sciences. The remaining property is left in a natural state with no plans for development. In addition, there are areas along Boulder Creek on Main Campus and East Campus that will be left in a native natural state allowing for wildlife habitat. In addition, Williams Village has federally protected wetlands located along the banks of Bear Creek.
