The Office of Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement (ODECE) uses a collaborative model with a limited portfolio. The three key areas of the division are: 1) Outreach and Pre-College Programs, 2) Student Success and Engagement, and 3) Campus Climate and Community Engagement.
The IDEA Council is a representative body comprised of student, staff and faculty charged with prioritizing the recommendations in the IDEA Plan. With strategic support from ODECE, the IDEA Council serves as an advisory body. The IDEA Council members lead the effort to prioritize the recommendations outlined in the plan and propose implementation strategies to transform the CU Boulder community. Working with campus leadership, area experts and representatives from units across multiple divisions, the Council works to build a more diverse, equitable and inclusive community. The 26-member council, designated by leaders in their respective units, will focus on recruitment and retention of diverse students, faculty and staff and identify areas where units and leaders can make changes to improve community and enhance sense of belonging for all. The aim of the IDEA Council is to:
Prioritize & Recommend: Make recommendations to senior leadership regarding prioritization and implementation of IDEA Plan actions
Advocate & Engage: Serve to further the intentions of the IDEA Plan
Advocate on behalf of and for strategies and priorities that meet IDEA Plan goals
Serve as a channel of communication between individuals and groups across campus who are addressing IDEA Plan recommendations
Facilitate networking sessions to share best practices and promote IDEA Plan efforts and initiatives Administer an innovation grant program for diversity and inclusion efforts
Assess & Report: Provide the infrastructure for implementation of the IDEA Plan recommendations by conducting on-going assessment and publishing results
Reviews ARPAC reports on diversity and inclusion and report to leadership
Plans annual unit status updates with Deans/VCs/UELT at the Diversity and Inclusion Summit
Plan large scale engagement of campus-wide data as a permanent Diversity and Inclusion Summit event
Create an annual IDEA Plan status report that is publicly available
Compile and post relevant diversity and inclusion data on the IDEA Council webpages
