New Building Sustainability Trainings and Greening of the Office

A brief description of the program, including examples of peer-to-peer outreach activities:
UCCS completed 5 new LEED Gold buildings from 2014-2017. Trainings were provided by a team of educators regarding the sustainability features of the building, LEED credits, energy and water conservation practices, zero waste procedures, and more. This program falls under the ongoing Greening of the Office Program where departments receive training on greening their offices, as well as individual audits. They are then asked to share these practices with other in their departments or building.
A brief description of how the employee educators are selected:
Employees are selected by their departments to attend the sustainability training. Departments engage in the Greening of the Office Program either by request or by direct outreach.
A brief description of the formal training that the employee educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach:
The trainings consists of sharing UCCS sustainability goals, sharing details of the LEED Gold certification, energy and water features and conservation strategies, waste minimization, alternative transportation support, and provision of a contact to ask further questions or report issues. Initial trainers are members of facilities including the Project Manager, Physical Plant Director, members of construction team, electricians and HVAC, as well as Sustainability Office staff. Inquiries or suggestions for building issues can go to conserve@uccs.edu
A brief description of the financial and/or administrative support the institution provides to the program (e.g. annual budget and/or paid faculty/staff coordination):
Staff are encouraged to attend these if they reside in the particular building. Department supervisors approve of staff time to attend trainings.

The Kraemer Family Library Green team provides education and outreach to all of the library staff. They conduct meetings, implement green strategies such as active study stations, zero waste initiatives, energy efficiency strategies, support of sustainability speakers, and increased purchasing of sustainability books and journals.
This Fall, the Kraemer Family Library hosted 13 events as part of the Just Talk programming series. Just Talk is designed to promote open and honest dialogue about equity, diversity, and inclusion on the UCCS campus and beyond. The Library is currently in the process of creating a sustainability strategic plan for their department.

Employees from the Kraemer Family Library are all eligible to be part of the team.

Members of the team have all received a Greening of the Office training and audits from the Office of Sustainability. Additionally the Sustainability Office provides resources and strategies as requested.

Library employees are encouraged to work on green team issues as part of their paid work.
They have applied for several Green Action Fund Grants and have been awarded funds for active study stations, bicycle locks for rental, durable bags to checkout for carryhing books.
