Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Institutional Policy to Use E-Steward Certified Recycling Vendor for Electronics

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
Colorado Senate Bill 12-133 established that all state agencies were required to recycle electronics through at least an R-2 Certified Recycler. UCCS decided to go above and beyond and require that the Recycler be E-Steward Certified, which is more stringent and has a focus on the health and work conditions of the employees. Other CU schools in the system do not have this requirement. As a result of this policy, UCCS has worked with a local E-Steward Certified Recycler that also works with Community Intersections to employ workers with disabilities. It is estimated that the amount of recycling from UCCS is enough to employ one full time worker in the local community. Policy can be found at: https://www.uccs.edu/vcaf/sites/vcaf/files/inline-files/700-006.pdf
