Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
The UD Bookstore and Flyer Spirit operations are committed to souring products that are fair labor designated. Our team cares deeply about where our products are made. Students and other consumers advocating for workers across the globe are increasingly concerned with ethical and sustainable production. We work only with companies that are in good standing with the Fair Labor Association (FLA) and/or Workers’ Rights Consortium (WRC). We also participate in the designated supplier program. We do not work with companies with labor issues (ex: Russell Athletics). Even with Nike we work with a third party (BCS) who has permission to use Nike trademark on their goods. We do not order directly from Nike or purchase their factory produced garments.
In addition to our controlled sourcing, the University of Dayton is a Fair Trade University. The UD Retail Bookstore hosts a fair trade boutique on the first floor of the Bookstore located in Marianist Hall. The Bookstore team is dedicated to fair trade offerings that inspire and engage to our customers. These offerings consist of several product categories including fine chocolates, home décor, accessories, jewelry, religious items and apparel. The UD Bookstore currently offers several fair trade brands including Alta Gracia; League; Ten Thousand Villages; Serrv; Novica; and Equal Exchange.
