The electronics purchasing policy, directive, or guidelines :
The IT department works with vendors to establish a list of products available for purchase with campus funds each year. The vast majority of machines on this list are EPEAT certified, with the exception of a few, specialized models that are only available as research needs dictate, and for purchasers who can justify the need. Some models are special configurations for our campus which are nearly identical to EPEAT certified models, but themselves are not certified.

A brief description of steps the institution has taken to ensure that the purchasing policy, directives, or guidelines are followed:
A sustainability committee within our IT department has convened to examine the sustainability of campus technology from purchase, through use, to disposal. One of the early findings of this group was that our annual spend on new equipment is largely on EPEAT certified models. Additional steps have been taken to ensure this continues. For example, EPEAT is now explicitly part of the set of preferences used to assemble each year's list of available equipment.
