Central Sustainability Website

Yes

A brief description of the central sustainability website (optional):
Central Sustainability Initiatives website: https://udayton.edu/about/initiatives/green-initiatives.php The Hanley Sustainability Institute website falls under the University of Dayton main domain and embedded under the University of Dayton- College of Arts and Sciences page, research centers and institutes. (go.udayton.edu/HSI) The website link is featured on all printed and electronic marketing materials, documents, reports and business cards providing direct access to the webpage. It is also found in related web pages such as Sustainability Initiatives on Campus (managed by facilities), relevant educational programs, and main university centers and institutes, increasing visibility and targeted audiences. The goal is to redirect visitors to a comprehensive website from any device (mobile friendly) presenting information about the institute’s vision, strategic priorities, staff and associates; ongoing programs, events, projects, initiatives; and latest news and upcoming events through a regularly updated calendar. Given the interactive nature of the University’s web platform, all social media channels (facebook, twitter, youtube) are connected to the web through tabs making it easy for visitors to follow the pages and share the content. The website content is maintained and updated on a weekly basis by the institute’s administrative assistant which provides visitors with current information. The website content is coherent with social media providing consistency and coherence for visitors. The Rivers Institute maintains a web presence under the Fitz Center for Leadership in Community’s site, and features links to the River Stewards program, the River Summit, and the River Mobile community watershed outreach initiatives. https://udayton.edu/artssciences/ctr/fitz/student-servant-leadership/river-stewards/index.php

Social Media Platforms

Does the institution have social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, interactive blogs) that focus specifically on campus sustainability?:
Yes

A brief description of the social media platforms that focus on sustainability:
The University of Dayton social media umbrella is the main channel for social marketing. Its admin plays a prestige role by supporting sustainability marketing content (comments, shares, retweets, mentions, snapchat takeovers) to drive more traffic and users increasing visibility and audience on sustainability. UD’s media relations, and magazine accounts play a reporting role as well. However, the sustainability initiatives, educational programs, student organizations, and institutes established their independent social media presence communicating messages about events, announcements, news, and introducing their mission and work out to a diverse audience. All of these groups collaborate and coordinate to help promote events and share latest news among constituents. The Hanley Sustainability Institute launched its facebook page and twitter account in Fall 2015. Given the time and focus required for successful social media campaigns, HSI hired in January 2016 a graduate assistant to participate in formulation of a marketing and social media strategy and dedicate time to posting regular updates to the social media account. The result of all these efforts is to make the University more visible as a research institute dedicated to being a leader in sustainability efforts. Facebook presence: Through these facebook pages, sustainability marketing messages are conveyed to a wide range of audiences. In addition to the facebook pages, there are several closed groups for students and alumni enrolled in sustainability projects, programs, and initiatives such as UD Renewable and Clean Energy. Those groups serve for communication among members and are not public. • The Hanley Sustainability Institute; page link: https://www.facebook.com/UDHSI/ • SEE Initiative; page link: https://www.facebook.com/SEEatUDayton/?fref=ts • Sustainability Club; page link: https://www.facebook.com/UDSustainabilityClub/?fref=ts • Rivers Institute: https://www.facebook.com/Rivers-Institute-at-the-University-of-Dayton-131481483595060/?ref=br_rs Twitter presence: At this point, HSI is the only leading voice on sustainability on twitter, alongside the University of Dayton’s official social media accounts. • Hanley Sustainability Institute; account link: https://twitter.com/ud_hsi • Rivers Institute: https://twitter.com/RiversInstitute Youtube Channel: This playlist falls under the main University of Dayton Youtube channel featuring videos from announcements, events, conferences, keynote addresses and speaker series sponsored by the Institute or revolving around the theme of sustainability on campus. • The Hanley Sustainability Institute; playlist link: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZejqDKgWYcF7VGn7sCDrxElInOsDNpt_ Other social media: The Hanley Sustainability Institute soon will be joining the Instagram Community as it develops its marketing and outreach strategy. A brief description of the vehicle to publish and disseminate student research on sustainability:
Each spring, the University of Dayton sponsors the annual Brother Joseph W. Stander Symposium to recognize and celebrate academic excellence in undergraduate and graduate education. This annual event provides an opportunity for students from all disciplines to showcase their intellectual and artistic accomplishments. The Stander Symposium represents the Marianist tradition of education through community and is the principal campus-wide event in which faculty and students actualize our mission to be a "community of learners." Students conducting research on sustainability themes present their research at the Stander Symposium. All abstracts are then published online at https://issuu.com/udstander In addition, The Honors Students Symposium, modeled on the style of a professional conference, is an academic and social event at which senior Honors thesis students present their thesis research. Honors students, including those working with sustainability themes, are required to complete a thesis project before graduation. Many work on other research even before their thesis and they have the opportunity to present at the symposium.
