A brief description of the methodology used to complete the course inventory :
Total number of courses offered by the institution:
Report generated by the University's Institutional Reporting Office. Criteria for the report: 1) timeframe: Fall 2018 - Spring 2021 (3 years); 2) cross-listed courses counted separately; 3) courses with multiple sections and in multiple terms counted as a single offering; 4) courses counted across all schools in the university; 5) offerings such as internships, independent studies, music ensembles, etc were not counted; 6) labs were counted as separate courses; 7) only courses taught were counted.
Special topics courses were excluded.
Number of Sustainability courses and courses that include sustainability:
The same criteria were used as defined above for institutional data. In addition, for sustainability criteria, a course inventory was prepared from reviewing the course catalog and the university's Course Inventory Management (CIM) system (following the definitions provided in the STARS documentation). The CIM system documents full course proposals for the Common Academic Program and recently for any new or revised course submitted to the Academic Affairs Committee. When further clarification on a specific course was needed, faculty were asked for syllabi or relevant course documentation.
For all sustainability focused courses, we recorded whether courses fell into category A,B, or C of the STARS definition and for all C courses what sustainability challenge(s) they focused on. For all courses that include sustainability it was noted either that they included sustainability as a topic or outcome or we noted what sustainability challenge was included in the course (module or outcome).
If the course description was not sufficient to support our classification, we provided additional comments on the specific course topics taught or the relevant student learning outcome(s).
