"---" indicates that no data was submitted for this field

Total full-time equivalent student enrollment:
10,963

Full-time equivalent of employees:
2,829

Part 1. Student commute modal split

Has the institution gathered data about student commuting behavior?:
Yes

Total percentage of students that use more sustainable commuting options as their primary mode of transportation:
85

A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:
[2021] In 2019 a campus-wide transportation survey captured a representative sample of the campus population, but students and employees.

[2018] Data sources: snapshot of 2017-2018 school year parking pass data; Fall 2017 factbook enrollment statistics.

Calculation: (Total students - Commuter lot student parking pass total) / total students

The campus is highly residential, and is surrounded by other residential areas that are not owned by the university. Most students walk or bike to campus. Those that don't almost always purchase a commuter parking pass, so the ratio of commuter parking passes sold to total students enrolled is a conservative estimate of how many students drive a single-occupant vehicle. We suspect that many of these students are carpooling or using the campus shuttle for most of their commutes, but it is not considered in this data because it has not been measured.

Part 2. Employee commute modal split

Has the institution gathered data about employee commuting behavior?:
Yes

Total percentage of employees that use more sustainable commuting options as their primary mode of transportation:
20

A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about employee commuting:
[2021] In 2019 a campus-wide transportation survey captured a representative sample of the campus population, but students and employees.

In previous years, the university worked with a consultant to inventory greenhouse gasses. This employee commuter value was determined by the consultant through a commuting survey that was sent via email to all campus employees. Therefore, a representative sample was reached.

We have tested their results using current parking pass data and the assumption is sill valid. Approximately, 16% of employees do not have a parking pass and therefore, it can be assumed that they commute to campus in a manner other than a single-user vehicle.
