A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome :
In 2007, The University completed installation of a natural gas fueling station and the conversion of 12 campus fleet vehicles, allowing for the use of natural gas a fuel source. The project was developed using a $180,000 grant from the Denver based Strategic Environmental Project Pipeline (StEPP), a nonprofit dedicated to a cleaner environment and clean energy. Since the original project the University has converted an additional 4 vehicles and avoided emissions of 211 MeTCO2 as a result of this initiative.
According to the U.S. Department of Energy's list of fueling stations nationwide, DU is the first University campus in Colorado to build a station of this kind.
