A brief description of the incentive program(s):
The University supports a Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning (CCESL) with five full-time staff members. Goals of the center include 1) supporting faculty in community-based learning and public good efforts at the university and 2) developing students into engaged citizens who actively participate in the public life of their communities.
A brief description of the incentives that academic staff who participate in the program(s) receive:
CCESL supports the development of creating sustainability courses by providing stipends, mini-grants and administrative support to assist faculty in:
- developing new course syllabi which include service-learning components;
- purchasing books, journals and print material related to community-based learning;
- creating assessment models and evaluation practices of community-based learning courses.
