Does the institution host a food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource focused on alleviating food insecurity, hunger and poverty among students?:
No

A brief description of the food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource:
Honolulu CC does not have a permanent food bank. The student support office does not have the resources to manage a pantry at this time.

Emily Kukulies, the director of Student Life and Development at Honolulu CC, works in disaster relief. Student Life organizes drives to provide students with canned goods and hygiene products. These drives occur approximately once a semester but were done more frequently at the beginning of the pandemic. Student Life also has provided 100 students flex spending gift cards of $50 each to spend at a local business, Times supermarket.

The Kapiolani CC and Leeward CC permanent food pantries are available and open to students. Furthermore, there are several operational food pantries in the Kalihi area that students can make use of.

This information is relevant as the UH system as a whole is trying to address the link between lower graduation rates due to obstacles such as students struggling to meet their basic needs (housing, transportation, food). Many students skip classes or end up dropping out in order to work to meet these needs. Albie Miles and Rainbow are the UH representatives in charge of addressing these discrepancies on a UH Systems level. Americorps VISTAs assisted in literature reviews, food pantry efforts, and providing info about their home campuses' situation around basic needs crises.
