A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution:
The Sustainable Science Management Program at UHMC is a four-year degree course track that offers sustainability focused immersive programs for students. The Sustainability Living Institute of Maui (SLIM) also has sustainability workshops and training certifications that are immersive and sustainability-focused. These include but are not limited to; Permaculture Design Certification, Certified Interpretive Guide Training, Ethnobotany: Field Workshops, etc. UHMC also has the Sustainable Aquaponics Systems Program where students can learn to design, operate and maintain sustainable aquaponics systems with locally sourced inputs of fish, fish and feed and plants using technologies and growing techniques. The Agriculture and Natural Resource Program at UHMC also has certifications that students can achieve. This includes; Nursery Management, Horticulture and Landscape Maintenance and Sustainable Tropical Crop Management.
