UHMC's landscape is xeriscaped, and uses drought tolerant plants (preferably native) for plant stewardship and also has a native, endemic and indigenous plant garden to help promote Native Hawaiian culture as well.

UHMC has a policy to maintain and regularly check water bill, water meter, plumbing, and irrigation to identify leaks, they install low-flow lavatory faucets and self-closing faucets, they replace and/or retrofit older, non-efficient toilets, the college does have a policy and/or signage in place around campus to encourage water conservation, irrigation timing is adjusted according to season for landscape and plants, mulch is used extensively in farm and garden space, the college uses drought tolerant plants (preferably native), and window cleaning is performed "as needed". All this information was gathered from the Hawai'i Green Business Program Checklist that UHMC filled out last year and was awarded in January 2022.

For landscape materials and waste management//minimization, UHMC implements several practices to reduce waste on campus. The campus has a plastic ban. No plastic bottles are given out or are on campus to promote staff and students to use reusable water bottles. Old computers or electronics are recycled, there is a policy and or signage to maintain recycling practices and increase awareness of it, Maui has a county wide styrofoam band so there is no styrofoam used for packaging, carpeting and wood is recycled on campus, and UHMC selects vendors whose products are easily recyclable and compostable. All this information was gathered from the Hawai'i Green Business Program Checklist that UHMC filled out last year and was awarded in January 2022.

UHMC has a policy for purchasing equipment with energy saving features, filter, coil and general air conditioning maintenance is conducted quarterly, UHMC installs energy star products and demonstrates at least a 35% reduction in annual energy use. The college also install LED lighting, provides shading for HVAC condensers, installed an Energy Management System (EMS) for central air conditioning systems, lighting controls, and water heating. They also purchase Green-E certified Renewable Energy credits for at least 50% of energy usage. All this information was gathered from the Hawai'i Green Business Program Checklist that UHMC filled out last year and was awarded in January 2022.

The Kauluwehi Garden also grows a lot of wind breaks for the garden for other plants. There is a shaded space in the garden just built this year for students to work and enjoy the garden under shade. The campus as a whole has a ton of large trees around the campus and tables for students to do work or enjoy.
