UHD's College of Sciences and Technology building utilizes an array of solar panels that help to power the LEED Gold Certified building.

UHD is home to two gardens, managed by the College of Urban Agriculture and Sustainability in collaboration with the UHD garden club. These gardens are designed to give students the opportunity to experience urban agriculture. Students that work in the gardens are encouraged to take home food at harvesting periods.

UHD's Center for Urban Agriculture and Sustainability oversees the Sustainability garden, (7) 45 sq. ft. garden beds alongside the STB. We also have a pocket prairie around our College of Sciences & Technology building.

UHD's sustainability garden is the site for an ongoing composting project that teaches students about best practices to observe when composting in an urban environment.
UHD's Sciences and Technology garden, located outside the College of Urban Agriculture and Sustainability, is the site for an ongoing project that observes how quickly biodegradable plastics break down in various types of soil.

UHD's College of Sciences and Technology building houses a cistern that collects condensate generated by the air conditioning system in the aforementioned building. This water is used to water the plants in the student-managed garden that is connected to said building and serves as an example of the ways that a building can be designed to reuse energy used for daily operations. UHD’s Sustainability garden is home to a student-led project that purifies rainwater.
