A brief description of the garden:
The Hull-House Urban Farm is an extension of the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum at UIC. The urban farm is cultivating the half-acre of land in order to become a model for local food production and museum education. It is a multi-use space for such projects as growing vegetables for weekly free soup kitchens, a canning project, a restaurant partnership with Chef Bill Kim’s Urban Belly, an outdoor exhibition, farm-to-school programs for local public schools, organic farming for student groups and food-focused museum tours and activities.
The mission of the Hull-House Farm is to create and sustain an organic garden that emphasizes the importance of community, sustainability, diversity, and beauty. The center's success relies on a number of partnerships within UIC including the Office of Sustainability and the Department of Biological Sciences.
