A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory:
To identify the total number of employees doing research, the number of tenure-track, non-tenure, and tenured faculty was recorded.

To identify the number of faculty members engaging in sustainability research, a key word search was done using data in My Activities (https://researchguides.uic.edu/MyActivities) which is a faculty activity reporting system being used by all colleges at UIC. It can be used to collect and analyze research output, and can serve as the single ‘research profile’ that you need to keep track of professional activities and publications. My Activities is powered by a system called Symplectic Elements. The key word search included terms such as ‘sustainable’, ‘sustainability’, ‘poverty’, ‘food’, ‘income distribution’, etc. – a full list of the key words used is provided below. After generating this report, the list was further reviewed and culled by hand based on whether a particular research project fit the description of the United Nations Sustainable Development goals (https://www.aashe.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/un_sdgs_and_targets.pdf).
