The student garden was created in 2009 and is maintained by the UI Student Gardeners organization. Their mission is to demonstrate an educational model of sustainable food production and consumption addressing environmental, social, cultural, and economic issues.
The garden is on a 1/3 acre plot on the west campus. Only organic farming techniques are used. The goods produced by the garden are sold to the Iowa Memorial Union food services for use in campus catering. Any remaining goods are donated to local food banks and the Crisis Center.
