A brief description of the themed housing, including name(s) and descriptions of theme(s):
UI offers over 30 unique living-learning communities (LLCs) to students living in the residence halls. All first-year students are required to join a LLC if they live on campus. LLCs focus on blending residential and academic experiences, linking students with similar interests, and interacting with professors and university staff members. Below are three LLCs with a sustainability focus:
Green Adventures
Green Adventures is an eco-friendly community that aims to educate residents about our effect on the environment, while also allowing students to experience, give back to, and appreciate nature. The Green Adventures LLC seeks to provide students with opportunities to learn about and reconnect to our beautiful earth.
Kitchen Table
Learn to prepare healthy and delicious recipes in the Kitchen Table community. This group will focus on health, caring about others, and understanding how our food choices impact the environment. As a community, this group will explore the importance of food, not only the nutritional value, but also as a representation of culture, current events, and social politics. Students will discover many aspects of food; its preparations, meanings, and origins.
Justice for All
This group will expand students' social and moral development as individuals and as a community. Some of the most passionate issues include homelessness and poverty, the U.S. education system, immigration, LGBTQ rights, health care, sustainability, bullying, and ethical treatment of animals. Become an active part of solutions through meaningful dialogue and community engagement.
