Does the institution meter all energy consumption (electricity, natural gas, purchased steam, etc.) for at least one building?:
Yes
None
A brief description of the metering system:
The University operates and maintains its own electrical, steam, and chilled water distribution systems on the main Iowa City campus and the Oakdale Research Park campus located in Coralville, Iowa. The energy usage for each building connected to the three energy utility distribution systems is individually metered. UI owns and operates all electrical, steam, and chilled water meters. The output of these meters is connected to the campus’ main energy data logging systems via a dedicated fiber option utility meter network system. The energy meters monitor and track total energy used and also monitor and track (nearly instantaneously) the rate at which the energy is being consumed. All meter data is stored in a data historian system (PI, developed by OSIsoft).
