23. CONFLICT OF INTEREST. Should Contractor be a paid employee of the University or of any other Iowa Regent Institution or State of Iowa Agency, Contractor will be considered a “conflict of interest vendor.” In addition, should any individual who is a paid employee of the University or of any other Regent institution or State of Iowa Agency, also be a partner in Contractor’s firm or own five percent (5%) or more of Contractor’s corporate stock or receive consulting payments, a conflict of interest exists. Whenever Contractor represents a conflict of interest or whenever there is a disclosure or indication of a conflict
of interest, Contractor must have approval by the Director of Purchasing prior to transacting business with the University. Contact the Purchasing Department at (319) 335-3815 for further information and do not sign this Contract, until express approval has been given by the Purchasing Department. Violations. The following are examples of acts that may violate this policy: Intentional exclusion of a person as author who meets the criteria defined above in paragraph c of this policy. Acceptance or ascription of an honorary authorship. Honorary (guest, courtesy, or prestige) authorship is granting authorship out of appreciation or respect for an individual, or in the belief that the expert standing of the honored person will increase the likelihood of publication, credibility, or status of the work. Acceptance or ascription of a gift authorship. Gift authorship is credit, offered from a sense of obligation, tribute, or dependence, within the context of an anticipated benefit, to an individual who has not appropriately contributed to the work. Acceptance or ascription of a ghost authorship.
