Sustainability staff within Campus Planning and Physical plant use energy benchmarking for all occupied space on the campus. The data is tracked and visualized to the public through the Building Energy Explorer (BEE): https://www.umass.edu/cp/building-energy-explorer.
The Building Energy Explorer (“BEE”) is the first phase of an ongoing effort to provide information about energy consumption in UMass Amherst buildings. The project focuses on evaluating existing buildings’ annual energy performance across multiple metrics. The goal is to establish internal benchmarks for energy use that are linked to space use and building type.

The University currently does not have any LEED O&M certified buildings nor sustainable building operations and maintenance guidelines or policies. However, our 2004 Campus Design Guidelines does have a chapter (10.1) "Responsible Use of Energy and Natural Resources." We do not feel that this chapter is sufficient enough for claiming square footage of buildings that fall under a operations and maintenance guideline or policy but this chapter does provide a foundation for efforts in creating a policy.
Total building space that meets "Eligible Buildings Criteria" comes from Campus Planning/Space Asset Management and is the FY17 data.
For green cleaning, we used the amount of GSF on campus that is maintained and cleaned by the Physical Plant which complies with the Green Cleaning policy from 2012 and that GSF is 8,933,841. The % is calculated by dividing 8,933,841 by the total campus SF of 12,970,149.0 to get 68%.
For the IAQ portion of this credit, the provided link to our "Reporting and Investigating Employee Odor Complaints and Other Types of Indoor Air Quality Concerns in UMass Office Areas / Buildings" document provides evidence of the indoor air quality (IAQ) management protocol on the campus and highlights both a mechanism for occupants to register complaints and action plans to implement any corrective measures required in response to audits, monitoring or complaints. In terms of regular auditing and monitoring of buildings, UMass has hundreds of Departmental Building Coordinators who serve as an important liaison between occupants of their building and Facilities & Campus Services and EH&S relies on coordinators to notify building occupants of events or issues which could include IAQ problems that may affect them. Departmental Building Coordinator responsibilities include:
Report emergencies occurring in the building.
Develop a list of special equipment affected by utility emergencies.
Serve as a point of contact during campus emergencies.
Maintain an accurate list of contact persons and corresponding spaces for your department within the building.
Report building deficiencies to, and make service requests of, FCS.
Review all key/core requests and express concern to csr@umass.edu.
Report occupational health and safety concerns to Environmental Health and Safety.
Disseminate pertinent construction and maintenance information to building occupants.
Oversee building conditions and act as liaison between your department and FCS.
Assist in scheduling repair and renovation projects.
