A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
Sustainability is prominently featured in the UMass "Guide to the U" online document that is required reading for new student orientation (first-years and transfer students). Sustainability has it's own category in the Guide located in Section 4 of the Guide called "Living in Community". Here is the plain text of what is featured in this section of the Guide:

"UMass, an Okanagan Charter health-promoting institution signatory, is a campus that takes sustainability seriously with a plan to transition to 100% renewable energy by 2032 through UMass Carbon Zero; 10 megawatts of solar power generated on campus; 4 campus permaculture gardens; a local, healthy food initiative; 6 Valley Bike stations; more than 400 sustainability courses taught on campus; and a massive New2U tag sale during Fall move-in.

It takes all of us doing our part to make a difference, including you. As an engaged member of our community, it is your responsibility to: live and dine sustainability, follow campus policies regarding waste and recycling, learn more about sustainable resources, and get involved in sustainability by taking a class or joining a club related to sustainability.
