A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the inventory:
The University of Michigan’s definition of Sustainability in the curriculum and research was adapted from the Sustainability Science definition developed by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The U-M definition was developed by the Executive Committee (EC) of U-M’s Graham Environmental Sustainability Institute. This group consists of nine sustainability-focused professors representing our School of Natural Resources & Environment, College of Literature, Science, & the Arts, Ross School of Business, Office of Vice President for Research, School of Public Health, Taubman College of Architecture & Urban Planning, College of Engineering, Ford School of Public Policy, School of Social Work, and Michigan Law School. Courses were identified as being sustainability focused or related through a complete inventory of classes offered. The inventory is available to the public through an online database and is updated each semester.
