A brief description of how the institution ensures compliance with green building design and construction guidelines and policies:
LEED Silver Certification and ASRAE 90.1-2007 + 30% policy on all new construction over $10million adopted Feb 2010. U-M Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) department has developed Design Guidelines to incorporate sustainable features in all construction projects at the University of Michigan whether or not the projects undergo LEED certification. Two of these guidelines deserve special attention: SID-D Energy and Water Conservation and SID-K Sustainable Design and LEED Requirements. Other guidelines cover requirements for site sustainability, and use of environmentally preferable materials. These Design Guidelines provide direction to design professionals. Guidelines contain requirements of written documentation and checklists verifying adherence to the guideline throughout design and construction of a project. Also, AEC assigns Design Managers to each project who monitor compliance with the Guidelines, along with other duties.
