A brief description of the program:
Registered carpoolers can share a permit on a pre-tax basis. Carpools with three or more persons are able to purchase a reserved space at a discounted rate.
The University of Michigan has sponsored vanpooling for its faculty and staff since the 1970s. Up to six passengers and a driver meet each day in their community and ride in together, are dropped off near work, and the van is parked in a reserved parking place on campus.
