The Campus Sustainability Integrated Assessment directly involved more than 500 University of Michigan students, faculty, and staff representing 101 organizational units and 27 academic programs to advance campus sustainability by: establishing goals and targets; developing strategic frameworks; identifying research and learning opportunities; educating the campus community; and, sharing publicly what we have learned.

A brief description of the plan’s measurable goals :
GOALS ARE FOR 2025: Climate Action: Reduce greenhouse gas emissions (scopes 1&2) by 25% below 2006 levels & decrease carbon intensity of passenger trips on University of Michigan transportation options by 30% below 2006 levels. Waste Prevention: Reduce waste tonnage diverted to disposal facilities by 40% below 2006 levels. Healthy Environments: Purchase 20% of University of Michigan food in accordance with U-M Sustainable Food Purchasing Guidelines by 2025, and protect Huron River water quality by: minimizing runoff from impervious surfaces ( out perform uncontrolled surfaces by 30%), and reducing the volume of land management chemicals used on campus by 40%. Community awareness: There is no strategic goal recommendation for this theme, however, the report recommends investments in multiple actions to educate our community, track behavior, and report progress over time.

Each goal has many sub-goals and action plans attached to it. Each of these goals can and will be measured as appropriate. The report will be reviewed every 5 years and adjustments will be made if we are able to meet our goals more quickly than anticipated.
