The number 30,581 is based on a survey of a representative sample of the U-M student body. 2232 students of the 3140 respondents have performed community service. (70.1%). The 2232 respondents who said they did complete community service over the previous year reported completing a total of 123,709 community service hours. For the entire student population (43,625) this equates to 2,417,923 community service hours.
