A brief description of the institution’s programs that help increase the diversity of higher education faculty:
The STRIDE Committee provides information and advice about practices that will maximize the likelihood that diverse, well-qualified candidates for faculty positions will be identified, and, if selected for offers, recruited, retained, and promoted at the University of Michigan. The committee leads workshops for faculty and administrators involved in hiring. It also works with departments by meeting with chairs, faculty search committees, and other department members involved with recruitment and retention.
There is also the University Partnerships for Faculty Diversity. Beginning in 2011, the University of Michigan joined in a collaborative partnership with the University of California to offer postdoctoral fellowship opportunities at the University of Michigan. In this program, the University of Michigan offers postdoctoral research fellowships in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) and social, behavioral, and economics (SBE) fields, coupled with faculty mentoring, professional development and academic networking opportunities.
