Greenhouse Gas Reduction Committee: The committee will meet quarterly throughout the academic year and monitor progress of the 2025 goal, and continue to research concepts for the additional reduction of GHG beyond the 2025 targets. Sub committees may be formed on specific issues or strategies for report to the standing committee. The work products will be provided to the co-chairs who will bring recommended options to leadership for deliberation and decision. Each Working Group will: • Monitor current programs/plans and their impacts on progress toward the goal • Identify and discuss a range of potential options (e.g., technical, behavioral, political) for making significant progress toward both achieving and surpassing the 2025 goal, building on the earlier work of the Campus Sustainability Integrated Assessment, and prior work by the GHG committee. • Develop a high level plan for achieving the goals, that: • Includes updated SWOT analysis of potential options to help prioritize them based on balanced consideration of wide-ranging factors (e.g., potential: sustainability impact, capital cost, operating cost, paybacks, technical feasibility, political feasibility, research and student learning opportunities, implementation timelines, potential risks etc.) • Identifies U-M policies, practices, regulations and external conditions that may impede progress • Proposes new actions and approaches to meliorate the impediments • Proposes an ongoing role for faculty/staff/student working groups around the goals • In light of the above, provide annual assessment of the current goal and recommend any necessary changes • Report outcomes via meeting minutes and final reports

The Office of Campus Sustainability (OCS) serves as a focal point for sustainable campus operations, and collaborates with academic and research units, auxiliaries, and student groups to further efforts toward reaching the campus wide Sustainability Goals. Additionally, OCS is responsible for tracking and reporting the progress toward these goals, and communicating with the campus and surrounding community to engage staff, students and faculty.

A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the institution-wide coordinating body or officer during the previous three years:
In 2015, the U-M President ordered a review of our sustainability goals in the areas of Greenhouse Gases, Landfill Waste, and Community Culture. Three separate committees comprising more than 50 faculty, staff, and students evaluated the current 2025 goals and identified and recommended strategies for achieving them. This work led to the commitment of $100 million in new investments across the three goal areas.
