A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
Sustainability is included in the student orientation Canvas module by providing overview of sustainability initiatives at the university, links to resources and personal action items, as well as Spark story highlighting Planet Blue Efforts across campus. Included is also a Sustainability Pledge:
(We encourage you to spend a moment reflecting how you’ll live into this sustainability ethic during your Michigan experience. Use the space below to customize your own personal sustainability pledge.)
I commit to an ethic of sustainability, ensuring that current and future generations have equitable access to the resources for a full and vibrant life without the exploitation of people, society or the environment. I will incorporate sustainability into my daily routine, and encourage those around me to think more critically about the impact of their actions. As a Wolverine, the first step I will take to realize this commitment is ______.
All students have to complete this orientation module before registering for classes.
Content of this orientation is available only after student system login, but below is a link to the Spark story promoted within the orientation module.

Incoming Graduate students: The Office of Campus Sustainability works with Rackham Student Government to make several welcome events Zero Waste and spread the information on Zero Waste initiatives at U-M. They also trained new graduate student leaders in zero waste in September 2022 as part of their orientation.
The Office of Campus Sustainability also participates in multiple individual school/college graduate orientations by holding a Planet Blue table with information about U-M sustainability initiatives.
