U-M student team received a runner-up award for their submission of a long-term energy-management plan to the DTE Energy E-Challenge Competition for Colleges and Universities (sponsored by DTE Energy and the Engineering Society of Detroit) in 2020 - a contest that encouraged students to develop innovative plans to help their schools reduce energy waste. U-M’s Ann Arbor and Dearborn campuses were among seven colleges and universities in Michigan participating.

- Founding membership on the Steering Committee for the Midwest Climate Summit and the follow-on Steering Committee for creation of the Midwest Climate Collaborative.
- Three U-M faculty were appointed members of Michigan Governor Whitmer’s Climate Council, tasked with helping develop the states Climate Action Plan.

A brief description of the mentoring relationship and activities:
1. The University of Michigan - Ann Arbor is helping two distinct regional campuses - UM-Dearborn and UM-Flint - in their campus sustainability efforts; expanding the Planet Blue Ambassador program to the campuses, providing support with reporting, staffing, as well as project funding. Both satellite campuses are also included in the carbon neutrality plan by directly involving public and staff in many of the carbon neutrality analysis teams, by hosting in-person forums and by providing feedback from key stakeholders and experts.
2. Since the start of 2021, the university has shared the Sustainability Cultural Indicators Program (SCIP) questionnaires with over 25 different institutions around the world to assist them with their sustainability survey plans. Since 2013, there have been more than 400 downloads of the surveys from the SCIP website.

In fall 2019, the Graham Sustainability Institute Director served as an external reviewer of Indiana University’s Environmental Resilience Institute and its Grand Challenge Initiative. In spring 2022, the Graham Director served as an external reviewer of Northwestern University’s Institute for Energy and Sustainability (ISEN). Each were extensive, multi-day deep dive reviews of the institutions.
