If total performance year carbon sinks are greater than zero, provide:
We've stopped tracking waste data for the purposes of emissions. Baseline year carbon sinks included composting data. Although we have increased composting efforts since we are not currently tracking waste in our ghg inventory.
Adjusted net GHG emissions
Performance year | Baseline year
Adjusted net GHG emissions | 225,290 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent | 540,758 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent |
Performance and baseline periods
Performance year | Baseline year
Start date | July 1, 2019 | Jan. 1, 2008 |
End date | June 30, 2020 | Dec. 31, 2008 |
A brief description of when and why the GHG emissions baseline was adopted:
The baseline year was established based on the year the University became a signatory to the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment. The baseline year data was calculated by a student intern in 2009.
Part 1. Reduction in GHG emissions per person
Weighted campus users
Performance year | Baseline year
Number of students resident on-site | 7,518 | 6,555 |
Number of employees resident on-site | 18 | 15 |
Number of other individuals resident on-site | 3 | 4 |
Total full-time equivalent student enrollment | 47,039 | 44,934 |
Full-time equivalent of employees | 17,531 | 17,954 |
Full-time equivalent of students enrolled exclusively in distance education | 398 | 88 |
Weighted Campus Users | 50,016 | 48,746.50 |
Metrics used in scoring for Part 1
Performance year | Baseline year
Adjusted net Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions per weighted campus user | 4.50 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent | 11.09 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent |
Percentage reduction in adjusted net Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions per weighted campus user from baseline:
59.40

Other energy intensive space | 1,268,064 Square feet |
EUI-adjusted floor area, performance year:
29,628,746
Gross square feet
Metric used in scoring for Part 2
0.01
MtCO2e per square foot
A brief description of the institution’s GHG emissions reduction initiatives:
Xcel Energy has increased the number of carbon free sources supplied to the grid. The University has also installed several solar arrays, joined a green power purchasing program through Xcel, and purchased RECS since 2008.
The discrepancy in carbon sink data is due to the fact that we no longer account for waste in our ghg inventory process.
