A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome :
The Creative Sustainability Initiative (CSI) is a partnership between the Office of Sustainability and the Weatherspoon Art Museum at UNCG. The arts are often overlooked as an opportunity to pursue sustainability, so the CSI was developed as an effort to increase awareness of sustainability throughout the campus community and incorporate the creative process into sustainability challenges, including climate change. The program offers three grants of $500 to UNCG students to create and present projects focused on sustainability in one of the following disciplines: visual arts, music, dance, fiction writing, poetry, and interior architecture. A panel of arts faculty selected the three winning proposals, and grant winners were announced at UNCG's Earth Day celebration. The winning projects were presented at various two arts events during the fall 2012 semester, including the Sustainability in the Arts Symposium.
