Furthermore, UNCG's Grounds Department has employed several strategies, including implementing a 20 foot "no-mow" buffer along all stream banks; tree preservation and landscaping are used to control erosion for both new and existing development; and other practices include re-grading problem areas, installing and improving swales, maintaining green space, and installing retention ponds.

UNCG's new Campus Master Plan identifies the importance of several creeks which run through campus and recommends the preservation of open and forested space and calls for the development of more bioswales and rain gardens near buildings and along major pedestrian corridors on campus to mitigate stormwater.
