The Service Learning center is working with sustainable development projects. They are researching how to design and build sustainably with practices in water management, grounds, landscape, and energy. They will be studying our Health Services Building (construction complete Mar 2017) which is Green Globe certified.
Our Health Sciences Building also hosts a "green roof" where students can view and learn about the importance of greenery and plants in the environment and urban areas.

The Service Learning center is studying our Health Services Building in relation to sustainable energy.

UNCP is working with the NC 10% campaign to bring more local foods to campus and increase student awareness of food issues. We have a student local food ambassador who coordinates activities between the sustainability office, cafeteria and students. The Service Learning Department will also be researching local food initiatives at other campuses They are also working with the Real Food Challenge Calculator to determine how much of our locally sourced food is organic, humane, etc.
The agriculture students also work with local farmers who provide produce for the dining hall and other dining locations on campus.

The Service Learning center is studying our Health Services Building in relation to sustainable grounds. Students partaking in agriculture classes are learning how to maintain grounds, produce vegetation, and grow produce while using sustainable practices and products.

The Service Learning Center is studying waste and recycling in relation to sustainability. They are researching and taking inventory of every waste and recycling bin on campus. Students are taking part in learning what products on campus from the different dining locations can be recycled, composted, or taken to landfills.

The ecology and freshwater ecosystems classes use the campus retention ponds for sampling and learning about water management.
