A brief description of the policy:
The University of Notre Dame held a “Fuel Summit” on October 18th, 2010, where we discussed how individual departments would handle the idling situation. Departments have guidelines which they will use to ensure that they are keeping a watch on idling.
An official statement on idling can be found in the Employee Vehicle Use Policy. Item #10 states:
Driver must turn off the vehicle, remove the keys and secure the vehicle when it is unattended, except for police vehicles, fire vehicles or specialized maintenance equipment.
